Estate
What do we do with this estate?
The estate currently has modern management. However, there is still much to be done.
The forest:
The estate has developed a nature management plan for 24 years with primary objectives of sustainable forest and nature management focusing on ecology, economy, and recreational use. Besides the family, many organizations regularly make use of it such as Natuurpunt, MTB Liever Bergaf, MTB de Trappisten Boys, Wieler Supporters Club Oostmalle (International Cyclocross Closing Prix), scouts, orienteering events, nature walks, film shoots, and many others.
If you wish to use a part of the estate, please contact Mr. Lenaerts. Also download the terms of use.
If you are looking for (fire)wood, please feel free to contact the forester.
Agriculture:
Christophe Lenaerts, resident of Heihuyzen Castle and son of the late Godfroy Lenaerts, is himself a full-time farmer and cultivates the land personally. The land is used for both livestock farming and arable farming, with corn and hay grass as primary crops. Work is being done to improve the biotope of the fauna and flora. Water management issues are also being jointly examined and addressed.
Nature:
The Heihuyzen estate is known throughout Flanders and Europe for its highly diverse and exceptional fauna and flora. In 2014, the estate received the prestigious European Anders Wall Award. Information about the label can be found here.
The buildings:
The castle serves as residence for the Lenaerts family. For special events, the castle is made available. Contact us for more information. The farmhouses and caretaker’s residence are rented out.
