Heihuyzen Private Foundation
The Heihuyzen Private Foundation was established on October 3, 2005, at the initiative of Mr. Godfroy Lenaerts to protect the estate, which had been in the family for generations, from being split up and divided through inheritances.
The Heihuyzen estate was formerly owned by the Talon family, as evidenced by the Talon Drive of the same name in Oostmalle. Between 1850 and 1865, the Brussels notary family Gustave van Merstraeten and his father George purchased the lands from the Talon family. Gustave had 3 children: George, Idesbalde, and Marie.
Idesbalde had neither wife nor children and sold his share around 1934 to the Ackermans family.
Marie married Paul Degroux. And George, married to Marie Louise Pourbaix, was the father of Alice and Marguerite van Merstraeten.
Marguerite also did not marry and therefore had no direct heirs. Alice married Armand Lenaerts, with Godfroy Lenaerts as their only child.

The Foundation Has 3 Disinterested Goals:
- Pushing the boundaries of knowledge in medical science fields by stimulating, supporting, and financing fundamental and applied scientific research, and promoting its quality
- Combating poverty and helping and assisting the socially and physically disadvantaged in society, in order to offer them a dignified and qualitatively better existence and provide additional opportunities to develop their qualities.
- Representing the interests within the framework of the care concept of the Christophe Lenaerts family and its descendants, including but not limited to the support and financing of their scientific, material, commercial, educational, intellectual, artistic, and other projects
The Heihuyzen Private Foundation has an external board of directors that is managed independently from the Lenaerts family. Christophe Lenaerts maintains regular contact with the board of directors regarding the management of the estate and to support the financial aspects by managing the estate like a business, with a focus on sufficient income so that it can operate independently.
An additional function for the private foundation that is championed by Christophe Lenaerts is the ecological aspect. He strives to make the estate serve as an example of the balance between the 3 pillars of ecology, economy, and enjoyment in Flanders and even Europe.
