Heihuyzen Estate is FSC Certified
On May 18, 2022, the estate officially received the FSC certificate.
We participated in the group certificate of the Agency for Nature and Forest.
What does FSC forest management mean?
Responsible forest management not only considers the environment but also has a social dimension and is economically viable. In other words: forest management with respect for people and nature, today and for future generations.

All public forests and forests within the Flemish Ecological Network must be managed according to these criteria. Thus, Flemish forest legislation lays the foundations for high-quality and multifunctional forest management, making the attainment of an FSC certificate a very feasible option.
In addition to FSC, there are also other forest certification systems such as the PEFC label.

FSC Group Certificate of the Agency for Nature and Forest: a feasible option
The forest index in Flanders is low (13%) and the forest and forest ownership structure is highly fragmented. Within FSC certification, the possibility of group certification exists. This system unites a number of forest managers who are certified as a group. The advantages are self-evident: responsibilities are shared, as are administrative and financial burdens.
Since the end of 2006, the Agency for Nature and Forest has held an FSC group certificate, whereby the agency takes on the organization and management of the group certificate. If you, as a forest manager, meet the FSC criteria, you can become a member of the group and thus obtain an FSC label for your forest. Your wood will then enter the market as FSC-labeled wood. Thanks to the agency, you can easily obtain an FSC label. The support from the group management reduces administrative and financial burdens to an absolute minimum.
